Q. How does a Credit Union differ from a Bank?

A. A credit union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution formed for the purpose of encouraging savings by offering a fair return. These savings are used to make loans at competitively low interest rates to members. Credit Union's also provide many of the same services that you receive at a bank. Whereas a bank operates in the interest of a healthy return for its stockholders, credit unions have their members' best interest in mind. Members pool their money together in savings to be used as equity for loans to those same members.

 

Q. Are Credit Unions safe?

A. Yes. Your deposits are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency. Much like the FDIC insures money that customers put in banks, the NCUA does the same for the Credit Union membership.

Q. If my Visa Credit Card or Check (Debit) Card is lost or stolen, how do I cancel/freeze the account to avoid fraudulent charges?

A. Report Lost/Stolen Credit Cards by calling 1-800-325-3678.  Report Lost/Stolen Visa Check (Debit) Cards by calling 1-800-543-5073 (in the U.S.A) or (414) 341-6535 (outside of the U.S.A.).

Q. How do I open a Checking account at FME Federal Credit Union?

A. To open your FME Federal Credit Union Checking account, either speak with your helpful FME Branch Representative, call our Main Office at 1-800-521-1800, or go to our website's Checking page where you can download an enrollment form. You must simply complete a signature card, much like you did to initially become an FME member. Along with your new Checking account you'll receive FREE 24/7 Online Banking w/Bill Pay option, FREE 24/7 Telephone Banking, FREE Annual Box of Checks, No minimum balance, No Per-Check Fees, VISA Check Card access*, Online Check Imaging, and the option to have Overdraft Protection.

 

Q. How can I apply for a loan?

A. You can apply for a loan by stopping by any one of our Branch Locations to fill out a loan application, by calling our Main Office at 1-800-521-1800, or by clicking here to be taken to our Loan Application page where you can type in your borrower information and send us the completed application over our secured website.

 

Q. My place of employment does not offer credit union services to their employees. Who can I contact to have my employer or business added to FME Federal Credit Union's field of membership?

A. Credit Union membership is a free benefit that employers can offer to their employees. To see if it's possible to have your employer or business added to FME's field of membership, allowing all employees of that business to become members, contact our Member Services department at 1-800-521-1800 x 114.

This is the same Account Number that appears on your periodic statement. The initial User Password is the last 4 digits of the primary accountholder's Social Security Number.
